How to use iCan CGM system?

Frequently Asked Question

1Who can use iCan CGM system?

iCan CGM system is intended to be used by adults and children (2+ years)

2What data is stored in the iCan App?

iCan App records blood glucose results every 3 minutes and provides trend graphs and daily average graphs. The App also provides and records alerts if your glucose is in or projected to be in an unsafe zone.

3What is the measuring range of the CGM system?

The monitoring range of the iCan CGM system is: 2.0 mmol/L(36mg/dl) ~ 25.0 mmol/L(450mg/dl). If your result goes out of this range, the iCan CGM App will display your glucose level as either too high or too low.

4What is the working temperature of the monitor?

The sensor properly works within a temperature range of 10℃ to 42℃ (50°F to 108°F). If the temperature exceeds 42℃(108°F) (sun exposure, bathing in hot water), the sensor may indicate temperature abnormality and temporarily stop working. However, once the temperature drops below 42℃(108°F), the sensor will resume functioning without any impact on its usage.

5How long can the sensor last?

Each sensor can be used for a maximum of 15 days. After 15 days, it will automatically stop monitoring, and you should remove the sensor yourself. You may purchase a new one if you wish to continue monitoring. If the functioning time of the sensor is less than 15 days (for example the need for an MRI body scan), you will need to manually end the monitoring session.

6How close should I keep between the sensor and the smartphone?

Your smartphone and the sensor need to stay in the range of 6 meters (20 ft) unobstructed. If there is a disconnection and then a reconnection, all data will be synchronized, so there is no need to worry about losing any data.

7Can I wear the sensor during exercising, bathing, or swimming?

Yes, you can. Our sensor is water resistant(IP28). Therefore, you may wear it during bathing and exercising. You can also swim while wearing the sensor up to a depth of 2.5 meters (8 ft) for up to 2 hours. If you engage in intense exercises, we recommend using a patch to protect the sensor.

8Can I reuse it after removal?

The sensor is a disposable product and should not be used again after removal. We recommend replacing it with a new sensor if you wish to keep monitoring your results.

9After Bluetooth disconnection, will the data still be transmitted?

Yes, the data will still be transmitted. Our sensor and phone connect via Bluetooth. If they stay within a range of 6 meters without any obstructions, the sensor will transmit data to the phone.

The sensor can store the complete data for up to 15 days. Each time the connection is established after disconnection, the sensor will synchronize all the data to the app, so there is no need to worry about data loss.

10What are the differences between iCan CGM product and a BGM product?
  1. The measurement locations of the two methods are different. CGM measures continuously the glucose concentration in the interstitial fluid. The interstitial fluid is the fluid directly under the skin which surrounds and provides nutrients to the cells located there. A BGM measures glucose in a blood sample collected by pricking the skin. Most of the times the sampling is done at the fingertip. The values between CGM and BGM are sometimes not the same as for BGMs there is a fairly fast exchange of blood in the blood vessel and by that closer representation of the actual glucose value. Whereas the glucose in the interstitial fluid must first travel through the wall of the blood vessel and the interstitial fluid to the measurement side. Therefore, you may see a lag time of about 8-10 min between your BGM reading and a CGM value. Modern CGMs minimize the lag time of the CGM measurement by means of smart algorithms.
  2. The iCan CGM system provides every 3 minutes an updated glucose reading. This continuous glucose measurements allow to identify actual and historic glucose trends, glucose levels and rate of change of glucose to optimize your treatment strategy and to make an educated decision at the right time. BGM measurements only provide the blood glucose reading at a single point in time with no information on trend or rate of change, which might be essential for an educated decision.
11What is the working principle of iCan CGM product?

The iCan sensor uses a flexible sensor implanted in the dermis layer to measure the glucose concentration in the interstitial fluid. The sensor transmits the results to the smartphone App through a transmitter. The iCan sensor provides a glucose measurement result every three minutes, creating a curve trend graph and various blood glucose analysis reports.

12What is the MARD value?

The MARD (Mean Absolute Relative Difference) value is a statistical measure of CGM accuracy. It represents the average percent of relative error compared to venous blood glucose measurements. The lower the MARD value, the more accurate the CGM monitor is.

13What is the MARD value of the iCan CGM system?

The MARD value of the iCan CGM system in clinical trials was 8.71% , The lower the MARD value, the closer the CGM values are to the blood glucose values. The lower the MARD value means that the iCan CGM system has an accuracy which is one of the lower of all CGM products available today.

14What is the size of the sensor?

The sensor measures approximately 32mm across and 5.7mm in thickness, which is about the size of a coin.
